2017 – Directed by myself
As a student at Portobello High School, I was asked to create a short film documenting the school’s move to a new building. My brief stated that the film should be targeted at members of the school community such as parents, teachers and students however it would also be shown to wider audiences at the building’s official opening ceremony and the public open days. The film has a light-hearted tone as a celebration of the new building while acknowledging the attachment many people had to the old building.
I combined handheld footage with some stable tripod shots, including a time lapse, to show the space and facilities of the new building. Opinions and thoughts from a wide range of students and teachers were used to tell the story of the move and their descriptions were matched with relevant visuals. The film was clearly structured to show a contrast between the old and new buildings as well as elements of the moving process.
